How do I create subcollections?
Subcollections, or "collections within collections", let you automatically add prominent links to other related collections at the top of your collection pages.
Your theme will automatically show subcollections whenever the navigation link to your current page has more collections listed within it. In the example below, browsing to the Shop collection would show subcollection links to Tops, Tunics, Dresses, and Sweatshirts.
Limitations
There are a few limitations to keep in mind to make sure subcollections display correctly in your store.
Menu Structure: Make sure to use the default 'Main menu' provided by Shopify as your header navigation. You can verify this by checking the menu handle. If it’s set to main-menu (cannot be changed), then it is the default menu.
Duplicate Collection URLs: For subcollections to work as expected, use each collection URL only once in your navigation menu. Duplicate links can cause display issues.
Filters in Collection URLs: When collection URLs include filters or tags, the subcollections might not display correctly. Only unfiltered collection URLs should be used in the menu for this feature to work.
This feature requires careful planning of your menu structure for it to work effectively.
Alternative method
The method outlined above uses the menu which can be limiting. For more flexibility, you can use the Collection list section. If you want different subcollections (collection lists) in different collections, you can always create a new collection template.
